You came along to a fundraising Skype session mom and dad (and friends!) organized with U.S. Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke, who’s making a pretty historic run here in Texas. We raised $10,000, and you were in charge of the raffle drawing for some prizes. Welcome to democracy in action, kid.

You got your money’s worth at Austin’s annual “Free Museum Day,” spending time at perennial fave The Thinkery, then moving onto the Blanton (Ellsworth Kelly’s “Austin”!) and the Bob Bullock Texas State History museum. Along the way you made a fridge magnet, did some roping, played a ukelele, and read dad a story.

Lots to discuss in this pic. In the background, here’s the first set of words we’re working on recognizing by sight. And in your hands, one of the books off our own library that you’ve picked up to read to us. First was Winnie The Pooh (and Now We Are Six). We’ve moved on to James Frey’s masterwork; we admire the ambition. We love that you’re reading, and trying to read, and taking all the cues from your teachers and parents and librarians in embracing books of all kinds. Keep it up, kid.
